After dauntless effort across several years, NC CANSO is off and running! CANSO is unique in that its membership are citizens who have the expertise—the personal experience that results from living with psychiatric illnesses, diseases of addiction, and cognitive disabilities. What this means is that our horizons, perhaps once narrowed by the effects of our circumstances, are now ever-broadening as we reach beyond old boundaries together! We are learning to live not in the shadow of our changed abilities or disabilities, but in spite of these!
That’s right, CANSO will not be focused on illness, on limitations, and on deficiencies, but on our possibilities! Our focus will be on life and on guiding ourselves toward the best direction of our life and health--our best well-being, a focus all people should have. Additionally, CANSO will promote the development of personal and group leadership so we can help to shape our communities and influence the quality of services which we may receive.
We hope our web-site will serve as a conduit of information and support for North Carolinians whose lives are affected by mental illness, developmental/cognitive disabilities, and diseases of addiction. We have so much to offer to each other and to our communities, and communication is a first step!
Please feel free to contact us to share information or calendar events which support opportunities for our personal or community developments. Just click on “Contact Us” or call NC CANSO’s temporary telephone number, which will soon be listed on this site!
Again, welcome to NC CANSO!
