Important meeting results in CANSO's bylaws

23Oct2009

Five of the six founding board members of NC CANSO met Thursday, October 22 to discuss and approve bylaws, including mission, vision, statement of purpose and organizational values. There had already been conversations through email, and telephone, and even in person as we prepared for the meeting. I am happy to report that we have finished and approved our first set of bylaws and have even selected interim officers. These are Pat McGinnis, chair, Carol Cannon, Secretary/scribe; Ellen Perry, Treasurer; and Obie Johnson, jr, as the Parliamentarian (Obie keeps this wild bunch orderly and productive!)
Additionally at this meeting, staff introduced our accountant who has much history was a finance officers for other non-profit agencies in her past. Her presentation about how to proceed with the best financial information we can gain for the original base budget . This will inform how we will proceed with our planning. Ms. Gail Boswell did an excellent job of presenting her process to the board. One board member commented afterward about Ms. Boswell's ability to simplify concepts and use language that helpd them understand our financial status and aims. The value of transparent information-sharing and educating are values that shape leadership that takes organizations the next step!
