CANSO has a board of consumer-leaders from across the state now! We will be having the first meeting on Wednesday, August 12th in Winston-Salem. Board members will become better acquainted and we'll work through important foundational tasks that will ensure the health and transparency of the organization. The meeing will begin at 10:00 a.m. and will end at 3:00 p.m.
After dauntless effort across several years, NC CANSO is off and running! CANSO is unique in that its membership are citizens who have the expertise—the personal experience that results from living with psychiatric illnesses, diseases of addiction, and cognitive disabilities. What this means is that our horizons, perhaps once narrowed by the effects of our circumstances, are now ever-broadening as we reach beyond old boundaries together! We are learning to live not in the shadow of our changed abilities or disabilities, but in spite of these!
On August 20th the NC Commission for MHDDSAS wil be convening after a long break in its schedule related to budget issues in state government. The day should be informative with presentations from DHHS Secretary re: Current Priorities (in DHHS); from Division Director Wainwright; and from other Division staff re: new service amendments.
Many partnering agencies, including host agency Northwest Area Health Education (NW AHEC), have designed this event to foster the growth of the recovery movement and to showcase some of the most impressive models of recovery-oriented care currently in North Carolina.
